Jessie Rosa (2001) is the type of person you always want on your team and on your side in life. She is dedicated, driven, spirited, and if you play your cards right, she could be your biggest fan.

Her time at Mount de Sales revolved around sports. She earned twelve varsity letters while attending MDS: five in basketball, five in soccer, one in softball, and one in track. She was a four-year starter on both the basketball and soccer teams and was named to the GISA All-Region soccer team for four years and the GISA All-Region basketball team for two years. Jessie was inducted into the Cavalier Sports Hall of Fame at MDS in 2012 for her athletic prowess at both the high school and collegiate level.

Jessie attended Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) on a dual scholarship to play basketball and soccer. She was a three-year starter on the soccer team and was named to the GACC/SSAC All-Conference Team in 2002, 2003, and 2004. She also received All-Academic team honors in 2003 and 2004, and as a senior, Jessie received the NAIA Champion of Character Award.

Jessie graduated from AUM with a bachelor’s degree in communication in 2005 and immediately began pursuing her master’s in business administration while working as a graduate coach with the women’s soccer program. For the next ten years, Jessie held a variety of positions at AUM including assistant to the athletics director, assistant director of athletics, associate AD for finance, and senior woman administrator. In March of 2017, Jessie was named AUM’s director of athletics, the college’s first female athletic director, overseeing eleven collegiate sports as the college transitioned from NAIA to NCAA Division II.

As a leader at AUM, Jessie believes it is critical for her student-athletes and the entire athletic department to engage in community service. According to Jessie, “This past academic year, our coaches and student-athletes completed over 1,800 hours of community engagement that included hosting blood drives, the Alabama Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament, delivering holiday gifts to nursing homes, and gathering toys for underprivileged children in collaboration with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. These are only a few examples of what we do on a yearly basis.”

Jessie’s belief in the development of the entire student—not just the athletic side of these young adults—makes the AUM program ideal for aspiring college athletes. She strives to build a family and sense of community within her program, focusing on the personal connection between her staff, students, and administrators. Jessie’s commitment to her job and her vision for the AUM program is apparent as she attends all home games for every sport. MDS continues to cheer on Jessie as she creates a thriving environment at AUM for students and professionals alike.
