Technology
Mount de Sales was the first high school in Middle Georgia to have a school-wide network with internet access, website hosting, individual student email accounts, and computers in every classroom. MDS also led the way with the implementation of audio-visual capabilities in each classroom and wireless networking and was an early adopter of cloud technologies, allowing extraordinary collaboration capabilities. Our Learning Management System enables teachers to post material for 24/7 access by students and has tools for student engagement, whether learning on-campus or remotely. A 1:1 iPad initiative was implemented in 2012 and expanded to the entire student body in 2015.
MDS has twice been recognized by the National Catholic Educational Association for innovations in technology. This history of thoughtful technological integration continues to enrich and infuse all areas of school operations and learning processes, and enables us to quickly pivot to take advantage of new technologies or nimbly make changes when needed.
1:1 iPad Program
Research and experience confirm that the iPad ecosystem enhances student engagement and creativity – and gives teachers many options for creative, quality teaching. We provide each student in grades 8-12 with an iPad loaded with educational applications for creating content, taking notes, building vocabulary, mastering skills, and exploring the world.
Grades 6 and 7 students have teacher-monitored access to the Middle School carts, where – in conjunction with their Managed AppleID – they can create, explore, and learn how to use the devices well in a supervised situation.
Technology Labs
Students benefit from computer labs in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) at the Knott Library and in on-campus classrooms. The network has been maintained and upgraded to enable data to flow smoothly and quickly, and its design features multiple layers of security using a variety of technologies.
Since MDS is a Google School, students and faculty can access excellent cloud-based technologies, including file storage, automatic backup of iPad documents and pictures, content creation tools, and more.
Accessibility
Parents have several options for receiving information from the school, such as texts about school-wide issues, automatic emails from the PowerSchool and Schoology LMS regarding grades and classroom activities, as well as monthly email updates from the administration.
