For 146 years, Mount de Sales has been an integral part of the Middle Georgia community. At our recent eighth grade moving-up day and graduation ceremony, Middle School Principal Dr. Mike Franklin shared the original story of Mount de Sales Academy’s founding. The school’s history is unique and spans post-Civil War Reconstruction, the invention of electricity, the arrival of the first automobiles, two World Wars, the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, the advent of space exploration, the assassination of President Kennedy, and 9/11. Through it all, Mount de Sales has been a beacon of light for so many, and we are excited about what the future holds for our students, families, alumni, and faculty and staff.
What sets MDS apart is the combination of our intrinsic values—academic opportunity, organic diversity, holistic athletics, servant leadership, and our intown location—all in the framework of Catholic education. We also would not be what we are without our dedicated faculty and staff, partnership parents, and fantastic students. It has been said, “If you aren’t moving forward, you are falling behind.” Echoing that sentiment, President David Held said, “Institutions are just like individuals: there’s no such thing as status quo. We’re either getting better or we’re slipping, and Mount de Sales Academy is getting better.” Mount de Sales continually self-examines and evolves to fulfill our mission to graduate critical thinkers, compassionate citizens, and servant leaders. Fresh perspectives lead to innovations and efficiencies that further strengthen our academic program and campus life.
The start of each new school year is a reminder that, no matter the challenges, time moves forward and so do we as an institution. We have enjoyed sharing with you, over the last several weeks, what’s going on at Mount de Sales, and what we are excited about for the future.
