Mount de Sales focuses on excellence and character in our athletics programs. Our goal is to give the Cavaliers the tools to excel both on and off the field, building lifelong skills of discipline, teamwork and perseverance. This year’s 2025 Monty Awards honored student-athletes, coaches and unforgettable moments that defined the past school year. The winners from this year’s awards are:
Tony Pierce Spirit Award: Payton Latimer
The Tony Pierce Spirit Award is awarded to the student-athlete who goes above and beyond for their sports and the entire Cavalier Athletics program. Latimer is known for her high energy and involvement across four varsity sports and multiple clubs, and she captured the true spirit of being a Cavalier this year.
Team of the Year: MDS Varsity Basketball
The Cavaliers brought home their first region title since 2011, making history with a thrilling season.
Manager of the Year: Julissa Rodriguez
Rodriguez’s behind-the-scenes contributions to football, basketball and cheer were irreplaceable. Her sass, spirit and sideline savvy will be missed.
Moment of the Year: Varsity Basketball Wins Region Title
A historic victory, crowned by a dramatic win over their biggest rival, cemented this as the standout moment of the year.
Play of the Year: Abner Livingston
Livingston’s buzzer-beating shot in the regional final was “heard all around Macon”—a play fans will remember for years.
Rookie of the Year: Kirra Mitchell
Already a national champion and winner of multiple state titles, Mitchell proved she’s a force to be reckoned with as a freshman.
Duane Hunter “Handle Hard Better” Award: Marcus Wilson
This is the debut year for the Duane Hunter Award to commemorate a beloved Mount de Sales coach who exemplified the Cavalier spirit and attitude. Hunter, who is slated to retire after the 2025 school year, is known to go above and beyond for his students and athletes, meeting challenges head-on and striving for excellence in all he does. Wilson is the first winner of this award due to his stand-out positivity, perseverance and daily drive on the football field and track.
Coach of the Year: Coach Deion Taylor
After leading the boys’ basketball team to a region championship, Taylor was honored for his leadership and vision.
Male Player of the Year: Jackson Rowley
A multi-sport athlete and theater performer, Rowley dominated across football, basketball and track. He earned GIAA All-State and All-Region designations for football and basketball.
Female Player of the Year: Julia Bonbrake
Bonbrake had great seasons in volleyball, basketball, and soccer, earning GIAA All-Region designations for basketball and volleyball. She also participated in the school’s musical theater production, proving she’s a true all-around powerhouse.
