Middle school at Mount de Sales is filled with busy and happy adolescents enjoying an advanced curriculum with energetic teachers. Students who attend MDS in middle school have a unique advantage when transitioning to our upper school in that students have already mastered all of the special intricacies that make MDS superb. The MDS climate and culture are amazingly progressive and assimilating early allows students to flourish.

Middle school students learn to manage class changes, a rotating bell schedule, lockers, uniform expectations, lunch procedures, our learning management system, technology, academic rigor as well as adjusting socially. Most of our students enter MDS in grades 6-8th and doing so gives children an instant sense of belonging and connection. Current 10th grader, Maddie Jones, entered MDS as an 8th grader and now says, “Attending Mount de Sales in the 8th grade allowed me to build a foundation of peers, teachers, and culture that helped me transition into high school. By 9th grade, I had assimilated to the Mount de Sales environment and was confident in myself.”

Focusing on the developmental and educational needs of our students by using diverse strategies, we help students master the advanced educational expectations at MDS. With increased freedom from elementary school, students learn time management and decision-making skills. The step-up approach each year from sixth to eighth grade allows students to acquire the skills necessary to begin the ninth-grade year with confidence and independence.

MDS middle school students are allowed to explore elective classes, such as STEM, art history, theater, world languages, music, and physical education as well as the opportunity to compete in athletics on our C team squads. Individual grade levels also participate in team-building activities which encourage listening skills, teamwork, and cooperation. These activities help bond students with one another as they begin to identify as a future graduating Cavaliers.

The spiritual enrichment students experience is like no other. Regardless of faith background, all students will enjoy learning the history and practice of the Catholic faith. Daily, morning, prayer is intended to help the entire MDS community fully understand the importance of daily communication with God on our faith journeys. Attending mass regularly will help students learn or deepen their understanding of this highest form of prayer.

Contact us today to tour Cuddy Hall and meet our students, teachers, administrators, and staff members to see that the growth of each child is our highest priority. We look forward to welcoming you!
