The Cavalier Sports Hall of Fame will induct it’s next class on Friday, October 16 at the varsity football game versus Aquinas.

We will honor the following individuals for their contributions to the Cavalier athletics program:

Anna Bernal (2006)
Anna earned four letters in cross country and track and field and was a four-time GISA All-State cross country runner. She served as cross country team captain her junior and senior years. Anna placed at regions and state every year in both sports. In cross country, she was undefeated as a senior, winning the 2AAA GISA region and state titles in the 5000-meter run (PR of 19:32). That same year, she won the state title in the 3200-meter run in track. Anna had a successful career at the U.S. Naval Academy, running varsity all four years in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. She placed first in age group at the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon (3:19:46). Anna continued competing after college in triathlons, marathons, and half marathons, including the Boston Marathon (2009, 2013).


Carl Perazzola (1998)
Carl was a two-time GISA All-State and Macon Telegraph All-Middle Georgia football player. He was recognized as the Macon Touchdown Club Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior. On defense, Carl led the 1996 state championship team in solo tackles, and in 1997, he led the GISA in first hits with 116 and finished the year with 156 tackles. On offense, he had the highest average per carry in the GISA his junior year. In addition to football, Carl earned two letters in track, was named a Macon Telegraph All-Middle Georgia track athlete, and competed in the GISA state championship on the record-setting 1600-meter relay team. Following graduation, Carl was a walk-on at Georgia Tech and earned an ACC football championship ring with the team in 1998. He transferred to the Citadel on a football scholarship, where he lettered three years. He was named to the Citadel Ranger Team (2000), awarded “Top Dog” for top special teams player (2000), and led the team in special teams tackles.


Leslie Weston Gavin (1993)
Leslie earned four letters in softball and basketball. She was a four-year starter in softball, receiving GISA All-Region (10th-12th), All-State (11th-12th) and All-Star honors (12th). Leslie’s batting average peaked at .550. In basketball, Leslie was a three-year starter and primarily played the positions of small forward and power forward. She was the leading rebounder her sophomore and junior seasons and led the team in scoring and assists her senior season. At the close of her high school basketball career, Leslie was second in all-time career points at MDS. She received GISA All-Region (11th-12th), All-State (12th), and All-Star (12th) honors. Leslie attended Macon College on a full softball scholarship as a third baseman. Notable stats from Leslie’s final college season include .549 batting average, 85 runs scored, and 56 RBI; she was a member of the 1995 LaGrange College Softball Classic All-Tournament team.


David Prati (1988)
David was a three-year starter and a four-year letterman in varsity basketball. He was a member of three region championship teams (SEAIS 3AAA-1984 and 1985, GISA 2AAA-1986). David led the Cavaliers varsity basketball team in scoring during the 1985 season. By the end of his high school career, he had 1,185 total points and played in 93 varsity games. He was named to the GISA All-Region teams his junior and senior seasons. As a track athlete for Mount de Sales, David was a phenomenal high-jumper, placing third at the 1988 GISA state track meet, clearing a height of 6’1″.

 


Coach Jeff Dobias (2008-2017)
Jeff served as head coach for boys and girls cross country teams (2008-2016) and the boys and girls track and field teams (2015-2017). Under his leadership, the boys cross country team amassed five GISA AAA region championships. The team clinched the GISA AAA state championship four years straight (2009-2012). Jeff coached the girls cross country team to two GISA AAA region titles, two GHSA area I titles, and the 2013 GISA state title. As an assistant coach early in his career at MDS, Jeff helped push the boys and girls track teams to several top 5 finishes in state competitions. He was instrumental in acquiring the record board at Cavalier Fields. An avid runner and accomplished athlete, Jeff’s passion for running and dedication to strengthening the cross country and track programs made him a tremendous asset to the Cavalier athletics during his tenure.
