On February 9th, The Mount de Sales Chess Club hosted Stratford Academy for the first-ever Rapid Robin Chess Tournament: a night filled with pizza, fun, and four intense hours of chess matches. Students competed in a double round-robin tournament so that each student could play against every member of the opposing team with both the white and the black pieces. Both in the junior varsity and varsity divisions, each game had a time control of fifteen minutes. In the junior varsity division, Mount de Sales Academy earned the bronze, silver, and gold medals thanks to the performances of Aadi R., Boone M., and Anar B. respectively. In the varsity division, senior Jason Y. secured the gold medal for Stratford Academy by playing through the whole event without a single loss. Also in the varsity division, the silver and bronze medals had to be decided by a tie-breaker round consisting of two three-minute blitz games between MDS freshman Peter R. and Stratford freshman Josh D. Peter won both games in the round; thus, Stratford earned the bronze medal, and MDS secured the silver medal.

The two schools are excited to continue battling it out in future tournaments over the board! Go Cavs!
