Mr. David Held, president of Mount de Sales Academy, announced the appointment of John Allmond as the varsity girls basketball head coach. Allmond has more than ten years of experience coaching basketball, football, baseball, and softball at Bryan County Middle High School, Toombs County, and Robert Toombs Academy.
During his coaching career, the teams that Allmond led or assisted had regular appearances in post-season play. Most recently, the Bryan County High School softball team placed third in the region and made it to the Sweet 16 in the state playoffs, while his middle school softball team finished the season in the region Final Four. The high school girls basketball team finished in the Sweet 16 this season, and the middle school girls basketball team was the 2020-21 region runner-up. Coach Allmond’s middle school boys track team won back-to-back region championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, and his middle school girls track team also finished as region runner-up in the last two seasons.
“I am greatly impressed with Coach Allmond’s work ethic and dedication to build a winning culture in our girls basketball program,” noted Kenny Epps, Mount de Sales athletic director. “In fact, he wanted to move to Macon as soon as he finished his duties at Bryan County in order to have a full summer of workouts to train our varsity and junior varsity teams.”
Coach Allmond met with the girls basketball teams to encourage hard work during the off-season as a foundation for post-season success. “I am looking forward to the upcoming school year at Mount de Sales. I am excited about the basketball season and ready to get started this summer as we are returning a good core group of girls to the 2022-23 team.”
Allmond majored in sports management at Georgia Southern University and has a master’s degree in special education P-12 general curriculum. He will teach health and physical education at Mount de Sales.
Mount de Sales Academy is a member of the new Georgia Independent Athletic Association.
