[Macon, Georgia] – Catholic private school, Mount de Sales Academy, located in Macon, Georgia, is excited to celebrate Evan Lin for winning Region VI for the 2025 PAGE STAR student awards.
The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) recognized Mount de Sales Academy’s senior, Evan Lin, as the Region VI winner last night. Evan nominated Mr. Mark McMahon (’77) as this year’s STAR teacher. Mount de Sales Academy has the highest number of PAGE STAR Region winners among independent schools in Central Georgia. Evan Lin has been accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with an intended major in computer science. Mr. McMahon teaches Advanced Placement Physics and is an alumnus of Mount de Sales Academy.
When Evan Lin stepped on stage to make his acceptance speech, he opened with, “I’m Evan Lin and I’m a Cavalier.” Being a Cavalier provided Evan many great opportunities to develop the whole person; he shared that Mount de Sales Academy helped him to open up more with the welcoming environment and provide that next level of education. We are proud to celebrate his success as this is a testament to what our students can achieve with hard work and a supportive environment that teaches them how to become life-long learners. Evan will proceed to the PAGE STAR State Competition on April 28 in Atlanta, representing Region VI.
Mr. McMahon hopes his students will learn. He shares, “I want them to know that learning is fun. I have found that students put in the effort when you make it fun and enjoyable. I also want my students to appreciate diversity and respect our differences.”
About the STAR Program
The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored, administered, and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). Created by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce in 1958 and now in its 66th year, the program has honored nearly 29,500 students, and the teachers selected as the most influential to their academic achievement. To obtain the 2025 STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their graduating class based on grade point average.
