This year’s senior class has been exceptional in many ways. They have encountered the toughest college admissions standards in history and have been highly successful. College admissions rates have tightened rapidly and created a climate full of obstacles. Our state flagship schools, Georgia and Georgia Tech, for example, are reporting higher GPAs for their entering classes and lower admissions rates. UGA received a record number of applications this year, accepting less than 34% of those applicants. Those students had an average GPA above a 4.0 and an average SAT score of 1330. Despite this hurdle, 63% of our applicants were accepted to UGA. While our flagship institutions certainly receive much attention, each Senior has worked diligently this year to find the college or university that will be the perfect fit for them. When the fall arrives, these Cavaliers will take the knowledge gained and values cultivated here across our nation and beyond. Seniors acknowledged that their plans included matriculating to the following colleges and universities:
Auburn University | Louisiana State University |
Ave Maria University | Mercer University |
Berea College | Middle Georgia State University |
Berry College | Morehouse College |
Brevard College | Newberry College |
Central Georgia Technical College | Piedmont University |
Columbia College | Rollins College |
Culinary Institute of America- San Antonio | Shenandoah University |
Endicott College | Universidad CEU, San Paulo Spain |
Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University | University of Alabama, Birmingham |
Georgia College & State University | University of Georgia |
Georgia Gwinnett College | University of Kentucky |

Despite the rigorous curriculum taken by this class, over 91% of them will graduate with the HOPE scholarship. In addition to the Hope Scholarship, the Class of 2023 has earned over $9.5 million dollars in scholarship money to date and that number continues to rise.
Certainly, this class leaves an impressive legacy, not only for their academic accomplishments but for their tremendous leadership skills and the positive influence they used to continue the traditions of Catherine McAuley.

Cum Laude Society Inductees:
The object of the Cum Laudé Society is to promote learning and sound scholarship in secondary schools. The Society was founded in 1906 to recognize scholastic achievement of seniors in secondary schools, and the presence of a Cum Laude chapter at a secondary school is an indication that superior scholastic achievement is honored.
In 2012, Mount de Sales was granted a charter membership. Mount de Sales joins only eleven other schools in Georgia who have qualified for a charter in The Cum Laude Society’s 118-year history. No other school in Middle Georgia has a Cum Laude Chapter.
Cum Laude inductees will have their names recorded in the permanent files at the Society’s headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mount de Sales’ STAR Student and Teacher:
Each school in Georgia may name the student with the highest one-sitting SAT score and outstanding GPA as their STAR student. These students then compete against all the other STAR students in the county. Each STAR student is asked to name the teacher who most influenced his or her academic development.
STAR Student: Madison Yousif
STAR Teacher: Ms. Anne Carter Stowe
Senior Practicum:
The Senior Practicum experience at MDS is a field internship that students can complete to help discern if their area of interest could be a career path. Students must have 25 hours minimum in the field. They keep a blog chronicling their internship experiences throughout the year, and at the end of the year students give a final Practicum Presentation to a committee made up of administrators and teachers at MDS. This experience gives students the opportunity to develop skills that would be used in any professional setting, such as time management and communication skills.
