For more than 140 years, Mount de Sales has encouraged academic excellence, service to one’s community, and inclusivity among students. The graduating class of 2019 included more than 100 young men and women who now attend a variety of colleges and universities across the United States. In the Five Faces Feature, you will get to know several of our youngest alumni who were nominated by faculty and staff as outstanding representatives of Mount de Sales Academy.

Mason Turner transferred to Mount de Sales as a junior and completely immersed himself in the campus community, becoming widely known for his immense school spirit. He jokingly refers to himself as the “Student Section King” as he led the lively and spirited student section during basketball games and pep rallies. His school spirit also was evident on the field as he encouraged and motivated other players. Mason played varsity football, wrestled, managed the baseball team, and played the role of Lurch in the spring musical “The Addams Family.”

Athletic director Keith Hatcher noted that “Mason is a natural leader and is loved by his peers, teachers, and coaches. His positive attitude is infectious. He is fun to be around, and whenever you would see him around campus, he had a smile on his face.”

Beneath his sunny exterior, Mason speaks candidly about his transition to MDS and his two years as a Cavalier. He believed he would have a better chance of success at MDS and in college if he transferred schools. He spent time on the MDS website, researched tuition, and brainstormed ways to make the MDS experience feasible for his family. His persistence led him to Mount de Sales and a memorable high school career that included learning how to study, continuing to build his life around faith, and making strong friendships. As a life-long football player, Mason believes in the power of a team and the bonds formed on and off the field.

Mason spent his summer working at Chick-fil-A and now attends Kennesaw State University to major in sports marketing.
