Mount de Sales Academy had a fantastic weekend of wrestling during the GIAA State Tournament with 11 young men and women placing top six in the state. Four of those athletes earned the titles of state champion. The first ever GIAA Girls State Tournament was held, and three of our girls placed as state champions.

Boys:

Carson Craig (12) – Placed as Boys State Champion at 165

Carter Sparks (10) – Placed as runner up at 285

Desmond Brown (9) – Placed 3rd in weight class 106

Blake Jones (10) – Placed 3rd in weight class 113

Nate Frankum (10) – Placed 4th in weight class 132

William Cowart (12) – Placed 4th in weight class 138

William Griffin (10) – Placed 6th in weight class 144

Gabe Howard (11) – Placed 6th in weight class 157

Girls:

Makayla Batchelor (10) – Placed 1st as State Champion

Mary Clare Clark (10) – Placed 1st as State Champion

Katelyn Perazzola (11) – Placed 1st as State Champion

We are so proud of all of the hard work this team and coaches have put into the wrestling season. Coach Carsten always says to “embrace the grind” and that is exactly what the Cavaliers did.
