Five Mount de Sales students were honored with selection to the 2016-17 Macon-Bibb Consolidated Government Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS). Congratulations to seniors Logan Bates, Adreanna Chester, and Madison Williams; sophomores Eleanor Anderson and Faith Fabian. To be selected, students must be at least a sophomore in high school and live in or attend a school in Bibb County.

GCAPS was developed by the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia in an effort to increase civic involvement and awareness among the state’s youth. The Bibb County GCAPS program launched in 2012. GCAPS provides opportunities for high school students to learn the role of local government and meet government leaders.

The 2016-17 cohort will attend board of commissioners meetings, tour county facilities, and interact with local and state elected officials. This year’s program will run through May 2017 and students attend monthly meetings throughout.
