Getting into the holiday spirit! Author, Izzy Yousif, second from left.

At the heart and soul of being a Mount de Sales student, is that everyday brings new and thrilling opportunities to learn and grow.

When I first came to Mount de Sales, like anyone would be, I was uneasy. Going to a new school and meeting new people came along with thoughts of not being welcomed or accepted by my peers. Contrary to my thoughts, I was greeted with open arms; everyone at MDS gave me a warm, familiar feeling of family. All of my classes gave me the opportunity to be myself and grow as a person.

Present day, I am now the student council president and feel that here at Mount de Sales, I have a second family. I am excited to come to school each day, learning something new and having love everywhere I go. In my religion class, we recently did a project that I loved: Pay It Forward. The project made each student present ways that they can give without expecting anything in return. I feel that this project is unique, bringing to light ways each and every person can give back no matter who they are.

MDS also gives every student the opportunity to learn a foreign language. Each student is allowed to pick from Spanish, French, and Latin. I currently take Spanish and enjoy every second of it; each day we learn something new, whether it is about the culture or speaking the language itself. Going to Mount de Sales, there is never a dull moment. Whether it is at lunch or break while I am talking to my friends, or starting an exciting project in my classes; I am never left feeling bored or alone. Mount de Sales gives every student the chance to do the things they love; whether it is sports, the arts, or doing various things in the community. MDS gives me all the tools to be the best version of myself each and every day. It’s great to be a cavalier!
