Pittsburgh Steeler James Thomas, center, with the MDS Football Team

The varsity football team recently attended a ceremony at St. Peter Claver honoring alum James Thomas. Thomas was in town to be honored as a Distinguished Alum.

Thomas spent some time to speak to St. Peter Claver students and the Mount de Sales football team about his journey to success. He was the first African American to play football and get a degree from Florida State. He went on to be a #1 NFL draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he was a starter on four Super Bowl Championship teams.

Thomas is now a motivational Christian speaker and a successful entrepreneur. He credits much of his success in football and life to the discipline he learned from his Catholic education and to his faith.
