Senior George Pearson has been named a National Merit semifinalist in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program was established in 1955 and is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.

George is among 16,000 semifinalists out of more than 1.5 million entrants who were selected based on Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) scores. Semifinalists have an opportunity to compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million. Finalists are selected based on academic record, school and community activities, leadership, honors, an essay submission, and SAT or ACT test scores. National Merit finalists will be announced in February.
