Mr. David Held, president of Mount de Sales Academy, announced the appointment of Maggie O’Brien Gerwig as director of enrollment and career exploration, effective May 1. Gerwig holds a master’s in professional counseling and a specialist degree in learning, leadership, and organization development. She currently serves as assistant director for career exploration at the University of Georgia.

“Maggie is an experienced education professional, and her authenticity and leadership skills will ensure that families confidently navigate our admission and matriculation process,” said Held. “Maggie’s professional knowledge also will provide our students with an enhanced opportunity for self-discovery to inform their decisions on college majors and career goals.”

A 2008 graduate of Mount de Sales, Gerwig played on the 2008 GISA state championship soccer team that was recently inducted into the Cavalier Sports Hall of Fame. She matriculated to Wofford College, where she was captain of the women’s soccer team.

“Many of my best memories include MDS, and it is an honor to work for an institution that has made a huge impact on my life,” noted Gerwig. I am excited to lean on my past experience as an MDS student and what I’ve learned during my time at the University of Georgia as I get started in this role. I look forward to sharing the value of an MDS education with prospective families, getting to know our current families, and helping our students enter college with a strategy to navigate choosing a major and career. I am thrilled to return home to Macon and Mount de Sales!”

Gerwig is a nationally certified counselor and holds professional certificates in academic advising, diversity and inclusion, and assessments including the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
